Monthly Recurring Revenue(MRR)
Quick definition
The predictable, recurring revenue you collect every month through subscriptions or fixed contracts. MRR is the foundation of every successful SaaS company.
Detailed explanation

MRR is the most important metric for any business with a subscription model. It shows how much money is guaranteed to come in every month, without one-time deals or variable revenue. You calculate MRR by adding up all monthly subscription amounts. For annual contracts, divide the amount by 12. A healthy MRR grows every month through new customers (New MRR), upsell with existing customers (Expansion MRR), minus customers who stop (Churned MRR). The MRR growth rate is crucial: 10% growth per month means doubling in 7 months. At 5% growth that takes 14 months. Most successful SaaS companies are between 5-15% MRR growth per month in the growth phase. MRR also gives you grip on your business: you know exactly what's coming in and can plan ahead. It makes financing easier because investors see exactly how predictable your business is. Note: revenue from projects or implementation doesn't count. Only pure recurring subscriptions count.

Examples
A SaaS company has 100 customers at €200/month = €20,000 MRR. They add 10 customers (+€2,000), do 5 upsells (+€500), lose 3 customers (-€600). New MRR = €21,900. MRR growth = 9.5%.
Match-day helps a consultancy firm switch from project work to retainers. Start MRR = €0. After 6 months they have 8 customers on a retainer of €3,000/month = €24,000 MRR. This provides stability and predictability in planning.
When to use this?
Use MRR if you have a subscription model. Track it weekly and split it into New MRR, Expansion MRR, Contraction MRR and Churned MRR. This gives insight into where your growth comes from and where you have problems. Set your sales targets based on MRR growth.
